Greystone Court Castle is unique fortress located just 20 minutes from New York City; and it’s for sale. With sprawling views of the Hudson River and lush countryside, the majestic castle is a rare find indeed. Zillow reporter, Lindsay Cohen recently spent two days at the castle and shared the experience with Zillow Porchlight.
Kohle Yohannan has owned Greystone Court since 2001 and has lovingly restored the castle to its current splendor. Built over 150 years ago, the stately residence features 28 rooms with some imported directly from Europe during the 1800’s. Other stunning features include Tiffany windows, a 17th-century ceiling, hand-carved woodwork, a Turkish Room with upholstered walls, a spacious ballroom, and observatory overlooking the Hudson River. When asked about the renovation, Yohannan remarked, ‘It needed some love,’ he says, nonchalantly, of the house. ‘But there was always a sense that it was important work. It was worth the sacrifice. Hundreds of thousands of hours went into creating this: the carvings, the people who danced and cried and wept underneath these ceilings. The human patina is in this building.’
The castle has been featured in several movies, TV shows, photo shoots and even a music video. According to the article, Prince once considered purchasing the property.
With six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, 11 fireplaces and 13,500 square feet, the residence is currently on the market for $3.495 million. Douglas Elliman agent Terhi Edwards says it’s a bargain and thinks the next owner could use the property as an art gallery, a music studio or maybe even a unique concert hall. ‘I think the business part is great ‘” and also the history, what this whole place is. I sometimes think of people who lived here. It’s an amazing place.’ See Zillow Feature
